Never waste a good crisis

10 years ago, RevelX was born from the minds of four passionate individuals. The spark that ignited this venture was a pivotal phone call between two of the founding partners: Eric de Groot and René Jongen. This conversation uncovered a widespread sense of dissatisfaction and unfulfilled growth needs among their clients. In the wake of the triple-dip recession that began in 2008, the prevailing business climate focused heavily on cost-cutting, efficiency, and restructuring. Inadvertently, this approach led to the loss of significant business value and potential. This tumultuous period highlighted the need for a paradigm shift, encapsulated by the maxim, 'Never waste a good crisis.' It presented the ultimate challenge – an opportunity to uncover growth amidst crises and innovate as a means of navigating through turbulent times.

The Handshake

Marc and Jeroen joined the team, and together, the four founders formed RevelX, a boutique consultancy dedicated to helping organizations to grow through innovation. The “handshake” during a meeting between the four men in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel was where it all started. The name "RevelX" reflects the mission of RevelX: to help clients uncover hidden possibilities and achieve remarkable results. Helping with the most daring innovation. The reasoning behind the name: ‘Revel’ means for revelation and celebration. The ‘X’ stands for X-factor and distinctive work.

Professionalized innovation

The professionalization of innovation has manifested in the form of a meticulous stage-gated process, akin to ERP systems, complete with automated tools. However, it's important to note that this journey is just beginning. There is still a long evolutionary path ahead. Paradoxically, despite the heightened significance of innovation, the outcomes have often fallen short of expectations. In today's dynamic and turbulent environment, the importance of innovation remains as crucial as ever, demanding a reassessment of approaches and structures to ensure continued relevance and success.

The Evolution

Over the years, RevelX's evolution has mirrored the broader transformation of the innovation landscape. What was once perceived as a mere spectacle or performance has matured into a fundamental pillar of business operations, alongside marketing, sales, operations, and finance. Innovation transitioned from a 'nice to have' luxury to a 'need to have' necessity, firmly embedding itself in growth strategy mix along with autonomous growth and mergers & acquisitions.
